Couple More Circus Things and Wall o' Affordable Drawings Drawings

Just some more circus stuff and drawings/doodles for my upcoming show. I have a wall of, hopefully, less expensive pieces. Maybe my students can pick up something even.

Wall o' Affordable Drawings (continued)

I have a show coming up and always do a wall of less expensive doodle/drawing stuff. Maybe a few students can buy something.

While I Work

Because I can't show you what I'm working on now I will again return to the past. I did a cool show a few years back based around a fictional carnival: "The BlueGlass Circus/Carnival". A few of the pieces were partially 3d. I don't do them anymore and don't show them much because people want me to keep doing them. They were fun at the time but terribly time consuming and my soul is really 2d. One thing I have noticed and am happy about is that I really have gotten better. It's nice to keep getting better. I guess I'm not lying when I tell my students that if they work hard every day they will get better.

New New New

I keep doing things even though I don't have time. I will still keep my deadlines. The little dog is a very secret taste of something coming. Nothing you do will make me reveal it. The top piece is going in an oval frame. Cool. The dog is 3"x 3". Small.

THANK YOU

Thanks to all who voted. I won the director's award. Pretty surprising considering the other kind of work in the competition.

Super Turkey 2008

In case you haven't picked up your copy of the Boise Weekly here's this year's Super Turkey. I really like the line drawing from which all Super Turkey, and Cranberry Boy, life sprang?-sprung?-did spring?-sprangeth?-hat gesprungen?.

Shameless Re-Post

I have just copied and pasted this from below as a reminder that if you love me vote for my work. Even if you don't love me vote for my work. And if you can't bring yourself to do either then just rock the vote. It might get you off the streets for a few minutes. November 26 is the deadline to vote.

So because this is my own blog I can do shameless pleading and begging. I have entered a show which, quite honestly, is full of work unlike mine. I made the first cut, as I did last year, and now public voting begins. Here comes the pleading. If you have a minute and like my stuff at all go to greenwich, register as a collector and vote for my pieces. If you go to the site and like other work better just don't tell me. I could win fame and fortune well at least fortune and have my paintings made into prints like last year's "Pig Out" below. Thank you and this concludes today's shameless begging.

Eurydice

I'm working on a great project for the Boise Contemporary Theater. I not only get to do the poster but some of the conceptual work as well. Pretty cool. So here is an early comp. I might have gotten a little carried away, but trust me not all of the final decisions have been made. This is just a case of me getting a little excited and carrying early sketches too far. Speaking of early sketches I included stuff that one usually does upon receiving an assignment. You know little thumbs and things in my sketchbook. I also included the drawing used in the comp. Please ignore little critters sprinkled throughout the sketchbook pages.

Blasting From the Past

While there is a little lull I'm sure everyone wants to see old work. I have exactly five million old drawings and paintings stored so here is a start to showing them all. This first is an initial sketch, only about 3" tall, for the very first Super Turkey. I post this as a teaser for the new Super Turkey cover coming in a couple of weeks. His super secret identity is revealed. But don't tell anyone. Next are a couple of old paintings. One is Beetle Poopin' Pig. Seemed to be a favorite and is currently hanging over my piano. The next is on a piece of clay glazed with something called synaptic sludge developed by an ex student. Maurice is a good friend who is the shop guy in the art department of Cardinal Stritch University where I used to teach. It is a good example of why I don't do portraits. Not to mention that I hate doing portraits. And finally a curious little painting done for a couple who had a baby. The Super Turkey sketch is the most recent and that was at least 8 years ago.

Narrative

A little something over the weekend. Too many surfaces and not enough time. I've got a series of these planned. Hope I can fit them in somewhere.

New Bunny Thing

I did this over the weekend for a group show in Coeur d'Alene, ID. Just can't seem to resist the bunny thing. I'm sure it's because we have a history of having them for pets. Hey what do you think will happen if he pulls that thing?

Dirty Underwear

Here is an update on the halloween demo. The class voted for me do work on the dirty underwear. Can't wait to see what's next. A few more random drawings too. Noodling is classic. If you don't know what it is look it up. You won't be disappointed.

The Tins Continue

On a mint tin roll. I have a show coming up and hope to keep the momentum up so there will be at least 10 of these things. It helps that they are part of a story that I am also trying to put together. So onward unless I get distracted by something else really cool. By the way, some of these tins and my interview with Tor is up at Irene Gallo's ultra cool blog.

Halloweeny

I thought I'd jump on the festive season bandwagon. I don't do a lot of monsters and typical halloween stuff but occasionally I dip the toe in. First are a whole bunch of monster sketchbook-like drawings done for a local show a couple of years ago. I kind of put them together in poster format and yes they did sell for $45.75 ea as the poster says. Second is a demo started in an illustration class. They wanted a holiday themed thing so I started this painting on toned watercolor paper inspired by the creepiest people/zombie things in "rec" the original Spanish version of the recently released "Quarantine". I promised that I would work on it in class until finished. What have I done? And then if you are into super heroes instead of monsters for Oct. 31 I give you Captain Capibara recently returned from battle with Anaconda Woman.

Ball-Peen Beauty Mint Tin

Now that you have voted on my paintings below enjoy, or not, this newest mint tin piece. Scary but somehow alluring isn't she and I think she may come between her creator and his grandson (super secret stuff coming up).

More Drawing Things

OK, I know that you were breathlessly waiting for an update so I threw together some more of my cathartic (as in healing not bowel expunging) drawing things. I guess you can see that I have a bit of a thing for my pugs.
